The exam has two papers:
- Paper 1: Secondary level — Classes 9–10
- Paper 2: Higher Secondary level — Classes 11–12
Both papers are conducted in CBT mode and contain 150 objective questions for 150 marks, with 2 hours 30 minutes allowed. There is no negative marking.

Paper 1 – Classes 9–10
The first 100 questions are from the candidate’s selected teaching subject. The remaining 50 questions cover:

- Environmental Science

- Logical Reasoning
Paper 1 includes subjects such as Hindi, English, Urdu, Bangla, Maithili, Sanskrit, Arabic, Persian, Bhojpuri, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, Physical Education, Music, Fine Arts and Dance/Nritya.
Paper 2 – Classes 11–12
Paper 2 similarly contains 100 questions from the concerned subject plus 50 questions covering teaching and general skills. Subjects include areas such as Hindi, English, Urdu, Sanskrit, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, Political Science, Sociology, Economics, Psychology, Home Science, Commerce, Computer Science, Agriculture and Music, among others.
Important: The detailed subject syllabus differs considerably by subject, so the exact topics for Hindi, English, Maths, Science, Social Science, etc. should be checked separately rather than using one common subject syllabus. The available 2026 sources indicate that the subject portion is based on the prescribed higher-education/university-level curriculum.
