Explanation: Cautious means careful and avoiding unnecessary risks.

2. Choose the word which is opposite in meaning to “Expand”.

Explanation: Contract means to become smaller or decrease in size, which is opposite to expand.

3. Identify the correctly spelt word.

Explanation: The correct spelling is “Accommodation”.

4. Choose the correct option: “Neither the manager nor the employees ___ willing to accept the proposal.”

Explanation: With “neither…nor”, the verb generally agrees with the subject nearer to it. “Employees” is plural, so “were” is correct.

5. Select the word which can replace the underlined phrase: “A person who cannot read or write.”

Explanation: A person who cannot read or write is called illiterate.

6. Find the next number in the series: 4, 9, 19, 39, 79, ?

Explanation: Each term is multiplied by 2 and 1 is added: 4×2+1=9, 9×2+1=19, etc. Therefore 79×2+1=159.

7. If MANGO is coded as NZOHQ, then how will APPLE be coded using the same pattern?

Explanation: Each letter is moved one position forward in the alphabet. APPLE becomes BQQMF.

8. A person walks 8 metres north, turns right and walks 6 metres, then turns right and walks 8 metres. How far is the person from the starting point?

Explanation: The 8‑metre north and 8‑metre south movements cancel each other. The person remains 6 metres east of the starting point.

9. In a class of 40 students, Ravi ranks 12th from the top. What is his rank from the bottom?

Explanation: Rank from bottom = Total students − Rank from top + 1 = 40 − 12 + 1 = 29.

10. Statements: All pens are books. Some books are files. Which conclusion definitely follows?

Explanation: “All pens are books” is directly given in the statement, so it definitely follows.

11. What is 20% of 450?

Explanation: 20% of 450 = 450 × 20/100 = 90.

12. The average of 16, 22, 28, 34 and 40 is:

Explanation: Sum = 140. Average = 140 ÷ 5 = 28.

13. A sum of ₹800 is divided between A and B in the ratio 3:5. What is B’s share?

Explanation: Total parts = 3+5=8. B’s share = 5/8 × 800 = ₹500.

14. A shopkeeper buys an article for ₹1,200 and sells it for ₹1,380. What is the profit percentage?

Explanation: Profit = 1380−1200 = ₹180. Profit% = 180/1200 × 100 = 15%.

15. A train travels 240 km in 4 hours. What is its average speed?

Explanation: Speed = Distance ÷ Time = 240 ÷ 4 = 60 km/h.

16. If the simple interest on a sum at 5% per annum for 3 years is ₹450, what is the principal?

Explanation: SI = P×R×T/100. Therefore P = 450×100/(5×3) = ₹3,000.

17. Find the missing number: 7, 14, 28, 56, ?

Explanation: Each number is multiplied by 2. Therefore 56 × 2 = 112.

18. If 3x + 7 = 28, what is the value of x?

Explanation: 3x = 28−7 = 21, therefore x = 7.

19. A can complete a work in 12 days and B can complete it in 18 days. In how many days can they complete the work together?

Explanation: Combined work rate = 1/12 + 1/18 = 5/36. Therefore time = 36/5 = 7.2 days.

20. A number is increased by 25% and becomes 500. What was the original number?

Explanation: Original number × 125/100 = 500. Original number = 500 × 100/125 = 400.
