The practice set includes challenging questions on number series, logical reasoning, syllogism, inequalities, compound interest, time and work, profit and loss, English grammar, vocabulary and insurance fundamentals.

NICL Administrative Officer AO Preliminary 2026 Mock Test 7

NICL AO Preliminary 2026 – Mock Test 7

Administrative Officer (AO) | Hard Level Practice Set
Test Instructions
Total Questions: 20
Difficulty: Hard
Correct Answer: +1 mark
Wrong Answer: ‑0.25 mark
Unattempted Question: 0 mark
Note: This is an original, high-difficulty practice set, not an official NICL question paper. The questions cover reasoning, quantitative aptitude and English. The actual exam pattern and marking scheme should be checked in the latest official notification.
Section A: Reasoning Ability

1. Study the following series and find the missing number:
7, 15, 31, 63, 127, ?

Answer: C. 255
Each number is multiplied by 2 and then 1 is added: 7×2+1=15, 15×2+1=31. Therefore, 127×2+1=255.

2. In a certain code, CLAIM is written as DKBHL. How will TRUST be written using the same pattern?
Apply the letter shifts from left to right.

Answer: No valid option as written.
The given example CLAIM → DKBHL does not define a consistent, unambiguous letter-shift rule that supports any listed answer for TRUST. This item is intentionally flagged rather than assigning a fabricated answer. For scoring, this question is excluded from the denominator.

3. Six people P, Q, R, S, T and U sit in a row facing north. P sits third to the left of S. Q sits immediately to the right of P. R sits at one end. T sits immediately to the left of U. S is not at an end. If R sits to the left of P, who sits at the right end?

Answer: D. U
R must occupy the left end. P must be three places left of S, and Q sits immediately right of P. The remaining adjacent T–U pair fits at the right end, giving U the final position.

4. Statements: All policies are contracts. Some contracts are claims. No claim is a premium.
Conclusions:
I. Some contracts are not premiums.
II. No policy is a premium.
III. Some policies are claims.

Answer: A. Only I follows
Some contracts are claims, and no claim is a premium; therefore, some contracts are not premiums. The other conclusions do not necessarily follow from the statements.

5. If A ≥ B > C = D ≤ E < F, which conclusion is definitely true?

Answer: B. F > C
Since C=D≤E<F, it follows that F is greater than E, and E is at least C. Hence F>C.
Section B: Quantitative Aptitude

6. A sum amounts to ₹13,310 in 3 years at 10% per annum compound interest, compounded annually. What is the principal?

Answer: B. ₹10,000
Amount = P(1.1)³ = 1.331P. Therefore, P = 13,310 ÷ 1.331 = ₹10,000.

7. A can complete a job in 18 days and B in 24 days. They work together for 4 days, after which A leaves. How many additional days will B need to finish the remaining work?

Answer: C. 19/3 days
Combined daily work = 1/18 + 1/24 = 7/72. In 4 days they complete 7/18. Remaining work = 11/18. B needs (11/18)÷(1/24) = 44/3 days. None of the options matches; the correct answer is 44/3 days.

8. The ratio of the present ages of A and B is 5:7. After 8 years, the ratio will be 3:4. What is B’s present age?

Answer: E. 56 years
Let ages be 5x and 7x. Then (5x+8)/(7x+8)=3/4. So 20x+32=21x+24, giving x=8. B’s age = 7×8=56 years.

9. A trader marks an article 40% above cost price and gives two successive discounts of 10% and 15%. What is the profit or loss percentage?

Answer: B. 7.1% profit
Let cost price = 100. Marked price = 140. Selling price = 140×0.90×0.85 = 107.1. Profit = 7.1%.

10. A train 180 m long crosses a platform in 18 seconds at 54 km/h. What is the length of the platform?

Answer: C. 90 m
54 km/h = 15 m/s. Total distance = 15×18 = 270 m. Platform length = 270−180 = 90 m.

11. The average of 12 numbers is 48. If one number, 63, is replaced by 39, what is the new average?

Answer: C. 46
Original sum = 12×48 = 576. New sum = 576−63+39 = 552. New average = 552÷12 = 46.

12. A vessel contains milk and water in the ratio 7:3. If 20 litres of the mixture is removed and replaced with water, the ratio becomes 7:5. What was the original quantity of the mixture?

Answer: B. 120 litres
Let the initial volume be V. Milk remaining after removal = 0.7(V−20). Final water = 0.3(V−20)+20. Equating the ratio to 7:5 gives 0.7(V−20)/[0.3(V−20)+20]=7/5, so V=120 litres.
Section C: English Language

13. Choose the word closest in meaning to “Obdurate”.

Answer: B. Stubborn
Obdurate means stubbornly refusing to change one’s opinion or course of action.

14. Choose the grammatically correct sentence.

Answer: B. Neither the manager nor the employees were willing to compromise.
With “neither…nor”, the verb generally agrees with the nearer subject. “Employees” is plural, so “were” is appropriate.

15. Choose the correct replacement for the underlined part: “Had he informed me earlier, I would help him.”

Answer: B. would have helped
This is a third conditional sentence referring to an unreal past condition: “Had he informed me earlier, I would have helped him.”

16. Choose the antonym of “Mitigate”.

Answer: C. Intensify
Mitigate means to make something less severe. Intensify means to make it stronger or more severe.
Section D: Insurance & Financial Awareness

17. In insurance, the principle of indemnity primarily aims to:

Answer: B. Restore the insured to the pre-loss financial position
The principle of indemnity is intended to compensate for covered loss without allowing the insured to profit from the claim, subject to policy terms.

18. Which institution is the primary regulator of the insurance sector in India?

Answer: C. IRDAI
The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) regulates and develops the insurance sector in India.

19. Which of the following best describes reinsurance?

Answer: B. An insurer transferring part of its risk to another insurer
Reinsurance allows an insurance company to transfer part of its underwriting risk to another insurer or reinsurer.

20. What is the primary purpose of maintaining a solvency margin for an insurance company?

Answer: B. To ensure adequate financial resources to meet obligations to policyholders
A solvency margin provides a financial buffer intended to help an insurer meet its obligations, including claims, under adverse conditions.
