Section A: Reasoning Ability

1. Eight people A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H sit in a row facing north. B sits third to the left of F. A sits immediately to the right of B. Exactly two people sit between A and D. C sits immediately to the left of D. E sits at one of the ends. G sits second to the right of E. H is not adjacent to F. Who sits fourth from the left?

Answer: E. Cannot be determined. The conditions do not produce a unique valid arrangement as stated. This is an ambiguity-checking question; in a well-formed examination item, all clues should determine a consistent arrangement.

2. Statements: P ≥ Q = R < S ≤ T; U > S. Conclusions: I. T > R. II. U > Q.

Answer: C. Both I and II follow. Since R < S ≤ T, T is greater than R. Also, U > S > R = Q, so U > Q.

3. In a code, INSURE is written as JOTVSF by shifting every letter one position forward. How is CLAIM coded using the same rule?

Answer: A. DMBJN. Shift each letter forward by one: C→D, L→M, A→B, I→J, M→N. The code is DMBJN. (Options A and B duplicate the same answer; use this as a coding practice item and note the duplicate.)

4. Find the missing number: 7, 15, 31, 63, 127, ?

Answer: C. 255. Each term is multiplied by 2 and then 1 is added: 7×2+1=15, 15×2+1=31, and so on. Therefore, 127×2+1=255.

5. A person starts facing west, turns 135° clockwise, then 90° anticlockwise, and finally 180° clockwise. Which direction is the person facing?

Answer: B. South-East. Starting west (270°), add 135° to get 45°; subtract 90° to get 315°; add 180° to get 135°, which is south-east when measured clockwise from north.

6. If the letters of the word INSURANCE are arranged alphabetically, which letter will be fifth from the left?

Answer: C. R. Alphabetical order: A, C, E, I, N, N, R, S, U. The fifth letter is N, not R. Therefore, the correct answer is B. N.

7. In a class of 45 students, Riya ranks 12th from the top. What is her rank from the bottom?

Answer: C. 34th. Rank from bottom = Total students − Rank from top + 1 = 45 − 12 + 1 = 34.

Section B: Quantitative Aptitude

8. A sum becomes ₹13,310 in 3 years at 10% compound interest per annum, compounded annually. What was the principal?

Answer: B. ₹10,000. Principal = 13,310 ÷ (1.1)³ = 13,310 ÷ 1.331 = ₹10,000.

9. A can complete a job in 18 days and B in 24 days. They work together for 4 days, after which A leaves. How many additional days will B need to finish the remaining work?

Answer: No listed option is correct. Together they complete 1/18 + 1/24 = 7/72 per day. In 4 days they complete 7/18, leaving 11/18. B alone takes (11/18) ÷ (1/24) = 44/3 days. The options need correction.

10. A shopkeeper marks an item 40% above cost price and gives successive discounts of 10% and 5%. What is the profit percentage?

Answer: C. 19.7%. Assume cost price = ₹100. Marked price = ₹140. Selling price = 140 × 0.90 × 0.95 = ₹119.70. Profit = 19.7%.

11. The average of 12 numbers is 48. If two numbers, 36 and 54, are replaced by 42 and x, the average increases by 2. Find x.

Answer: D. 72. Original sum = 12×48 = 576. New sum = 12×50 = 600. Thus 600 − 576 = 24 = (42+x) − (36+54) = x−48. Therefore x=72.

12. A 180-metre train crosses a pole in 9 seconds. How long will it take to cross a 270-metre platform at the same speed?

Answer: C. 22.5 seconds. Speed = 180/9 = 20 m/s. Total distance to cross platform = 180+270 = 450 m. Time = 450/20 = 22.5 seconds.

13. A vessel contains milk and water in the ratio 7:3. If 20 litres of the mixture are removed and replaced with water, the ratio becomes 7:5. What was the original quantity of the mixture?

Answer: No listed option is correct. If the original volume is V, milk remaining is 0.7(V−20), and water becomes 0.3(V−20)+20. Setting their ratio to 7:5 gives 0.7(V−20)/[0.3(V−20)+20] = 7/5, which yields no positive finite solution because the milk fraction remains too high for the stated ratio. The item needs correction.

14. A and B invest in a business in the ratio 5:7. After 4 months, A doubles his investment, while B withdraws half of his investment. Find their profit-sharing ratio at the end of the year.

Answer: A. 10:7. Let initial investments be 5x and 7x. A’s capital-time = 5x×4 + 10x×8 = 100x. B’s = 7x×4 + 3.5x×8 = 56x. Ratio = 100:56 = 25:14. Therefore the correct answer is not listed; the options need correction.

Section C: English Language

15. Choose the grammatically correct sentence.

Answer: B. With “neither…nor,” the verb generally agrees with the nearer subject. “Employees” is plural, so “were” is correct.

16. Choose the word most nearly opposite in meaning to “Obdurate”.

Answer: C. Yielding. “Obdurate” means stubborn or unwilling to change one’s opinion. “Yielding” is the opposite.

17. Fill in the blank: The committee’s decision was so ______ that even its strongest critics accepted the reasoning.

Answer: A. Cogent. “Cogent” means clear, logical and convincing, fitting the context of critics accepting the reasoning.

18. Identify the part containing an error: “Each of the applicants / have submitted / the required documents / before the deadline.”

Answer: B. have submitted. “Each” is singular and takes a singular verb. The correct phrase is “has submitted.”

19. Choose the correct word to complete the sentence: The new policy is intended to ______ the financial burden on low-income households.

Answer: A. Alleviate. “Alleviate” means to reduce or make a problem less severe. The other options generally indicate worsening or increasing something.

20. Choose the correct sentence improvement: “Hardly had the meeting begun than the power went out.”

Answer: A. The standard construction is “Hardly had…when…” with subject-auxiliary inversion and the past participle “begun.”
