1. Choose the word that is most similar in meaning to “Diligent”.

Explanation: Diligent means hardworking, careful and persistent in completing a task.

2. Choose the word that is opposite in meaning to “Expand”.

Explanation: Contract means to become smaller or reduce in size, making it the antonym of expand.

3. Fill in the blank: The manager asked the employees to submit ___ reports before Friday.

Explanation: “Their” is the possessive form and correctly indicates that the reports belong to the employees.

4. Identify the correctly spelt word.

Explanation: The correct spelling is “Accommodation”.

5. Choose the correct improvement: “Neither of the two candidates have submitted the form.”

Explanation: “Neither” is treated as singular in this construction, so “has submitted” is correct.

6. Find the next number in the series: 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, ?

Explanation: The numbers are consecutive squares: 2², 3², 4², 5², 6². Therefore, the next number is 7² = 49.

7. If in a certain code, MARKET is written as NBSLFU, how will BANK be written?

Explanation: Each letter is shifted one position forward: B→C, A→B, N→O, K→L. Therefore, BANK becomes CBOL.

8. Ravi is facing north. He turns right, walks 10 metres, turns left and walks 5 metres. In which direction is he facing now?

Explanation: From north, a right turn makes Ravi face east. A left turn from east brings him back to north.

9. In a row of 30 students, Riya is 12th from the left. What is her position from the right?

Explanation: Position from right = Total students − Position from left + 1 = 30 − 12 + 1 = 19.

10. If P is the brother of Q, Q is the sister of R, and R is the father of S, how is P related to S?

Explanation: P is the brother of Q, while Q is the sister of R. Thus P and R are siblings. Since R is S’s father, P is S’s uncle.

11. Find the missing number: 7, 14, 28, 56, ?

Explanation: Each number is multiplied by 2. Therefore, 56 × 2 = 112.

12. A number is increased by 20% and becomes 360. What was the original number?

Explanation: Let the original number be x. 120% of x = 360, so x = 360 × 100/120 = 300.

13. The ratio of two numbers is 3 : 5 and their sum is 64. What is the larger number?

Explanation: Total parts = 3 + 5 = 8. One part = 64/8 = 8. Larger number = 5 × 8 = 40.

14. A shopkeeper buys an article for ₹1,200 and sells it for ₹1,380. What is the profit percentage?

Explanation: Profit = ₹1,380 − ₹1,200 = ₹180. Profit percentage = 180/1200 × 100 = 15%.

15. A sum of ₹4,000 is invested at 5% simple interest per annum for 3 years. Find the interest.

Explanation: SI = P × R × T / 100 = 4000 × 5 × 3 / 100 = ₹600.

16. The average of five numbers is 28. If four of the numbers are 20, 24, 30 and 36, what is the fifth number?

Explanation: Total = 28 × 5 = 140. Sum of four numbers = 110. Fifth number = 140 − 110 = 30.

17. A train covers 240 km in 4 hours. What is its average speed?

Explanation: Speed = Distance ÷ Time = 240 ÷ 4 = 60 km/h.

18. If 40% of a number is 180, what is the number?

Explanation: 40% of the number = 180. Number = 180 × 100/40 = 450.

19. If x + 15 = 42, what is the value of x?

Explanation: x = 42 − 15 = 27.

20. A can complete a work in 12 days and B can complete the same work in 18 days. In how many days can they complete it together?

Explanation: A’s one-day work = 1/12 and B’s = 1/18. Together = 1/12 + 1/18 = 5/36. Therefore, time = 36/5 = 7.2 days.
